The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Orissa Legislature on 10th December, 1966 to fulfill long cherished dream of the people of Western Orissa for establishment of a University. The University started functioning from 1st January, 1967 with Prof.Parsuram Mishra as the first Vice-Chancellor. The University was inaugurated on 4th January, 1967 by Hon’ble Chancellor A.N.Khosla. The University started functioning in 1967 in a rented private building at Dhanupali, Sambalpur and in Government building at Ainthapali, Sambalpur from 1968 - 72. In the year 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla.

Spread over 1200 acre of land, the University of Karachi was established through the parliament as a Federal University in 1951. However, through another act of the parliament in 1962 its status was redefined as university of the province of Sindh. On 23rd October, 1950 the Karachi University Act was passed and after an amendment in 1951 it was enacted and Prof A.B.A Haleem was appointed as its first Vice Chancellor. For the first two years, the University of Karachi remained as an examination University for the affiliated colleges. In the year 1953 it started its teaching and research activities at two Faculties of Arts and Science. Opened with an initial intake of 50 students, the university is now a sprawling structure of 53 Departments and 20 world class and highly reputable Research Centers and Institutes, under eight faculties of Arts, science Islamic Studies Pharmacy Commerce & Business Administration, Law, Education and Medicine. At present the enrolment of a regular student at the Campus is slightly over 24,000. There are about 700 teachers and more than 2500 supporting staff.

Gopichand taking a lead role as a brave person who crossing over many hurdles in life and moves forward determined to reach the final target, successfully. The story line also includes in detail the real beneficiary through bravery deeds. The director is taken the narratives on consequences attractively.

Starring Gopichand and Anushka in the lead role, the venture is handled by director Siva who earlier remained as Cameraman and promoted as director by the producer V Anand on behalf of the banner 'Bhavya Creations.'

The hero is confident the film will repeat the performance as like his earlier films like 'Yagnam', 'Ranam', 'Andhrudu', 'Lakshyam'.

Shooting of the venture almost finished except 3 song sequences and 2 songs are to be filmed at Switzerland under the supervision of Choreographer Brundha from 10th of August.

Currently dubbing work is in progress.

It is expected on silver screen during second week of September

The registration fee for the course is Rs.300/- (for SC/ST candidates-Rs. 150/-)

E. Eligibility
Candidates should have passed BA / B.Sc degree exams under the 10+2+3 pattern with one main subject and two subsidiary subjects from M G University or any other university recognized by M G University as equivalent thereto for admission, subject to the stipulation regarding marks.

However the eligibility of candidates who have passed degree examination in double/triple main, Model II vocational and other specialized subjects/streams will be governed by rules and regulations of this university.

In the case of candidates who have passed examinations of other Universities, they will be admitted only if these examinations have been declared equivalent to the qualifying examinations of this University.

The minimum requirement for admission to B.Ed course is 45% marks in Bachelor’s degree (Science/Arts subjects) in aggregate (ie, for Part I+II+III) provided he/she secures 45% marks
for Part III subjects.

Candidates seeking admission on the basis of the language under Part I & II need 50% marks for the part concerned and 50% for Post Graduate course in the same language. Candidates applying for the course under the language stream with a bachelor’s degree in the subject concerned will be ranked first in that particular stream. Candidates applying for the course under any language stream based on Part I / Part II at under graduate level and having PG Degree in the same subject as in Part I / Part II will be ranked only after that. Graduates in any subject for which optionals are not offered B.Ed course are eligible for admission to the subsidiary subjects taken at degree course if that subject is offered as an optional for B.Ed course, subject to the rules of admission. But such candidates will be considered only after the ranking of candidates with the concerned main subject.

For B.Ed in Commerce the eligibility is 45% marks for M.Com degree.

Home Science candidates seeking admission to B.Ed Degree course (are eligible for Natural Science option) should hold Post Graduate Degree in Home Science with not less than 50% mark. Also they should have studied Botany and Zoology (each, at least as a paper) at the degree level. Home Science candidates should be ranked only after ranking the B.Sc Zoology (main) Botany (main) candidates. Graduates in Petrochemicals (main) / Polymer Chemistry (main) / Bio-Chemistry (main) of M.G. University are eligible to apply for admission to B.Ed Degree course in Physical Science provided they have studied physics as a paper/optional subject at the Degree level. Graduates in Bio-Chemistry (main) are to be ranked only after ranking graduates in Chemistry (main).

Graduates in Statistics are eligible for admission to the B.Ed course with Mathematics as optional, subject to the rules of admission.

The following categories of candidates are eligible for admission to B.Ed (Information Technology).
• B.C.A / B.Sc (Computer Science/Computer Applications/Information Technology) and
• M.C.A / M.Sc (Computer Science/Information Technology/I.T.C.C/B.Tech (Computer Science/I.T)
• M.Sc OR & CE / UGC sponsored Computer application graduates.
Concession:
SC/ST need only a pass. SEBC candidates will get a concession of 3% in aggregate marks .OEC candidates will be given 5% concession in aggregate marks. Candidates who are moderately Physically Handicapped and those who are blind are also eligible to apply. Selection will be based on merit and shall be guided by the rules of the University.

Weightage of Marks

Candidates with teaching experience in approved schools/colleges in Kerala are eligible for a weightage of 0.1 marks for every month of approved service subject to a maximum of 5 marks, ignoring fraction thereof. Such candidates shall produce relevant certificate counter signed by DD/DEO/AEO respectively.
Candidates who have a Post Graduate Degree in a concerned subject are eligible for weightage of marks as follows: M.A / M.Sc - I class: 5% marks, M.A / M.Sc - II class: 3% marks, M.A / M.Sc - III class: 2% marks. Weightage of 1% marks shall be given to the candidates who have represented the University / State / Nation in Sports and Games. Rounding of marks of 0.5 and above to the highest figure shall not be done while calculating the percentage of marks for minimum eligibility.
Certain percentage of marks shall be given to the local candidates as locality weightage on production of proper locality certificate from the competent authority. The percentage of marks and the revenue area shall be decided by the University, and it vests all the rights in implementing and withdrawing the conditions regarding the local weightage.
A weightage of 2% marks will be given for purpose of ranking candidates who belong to the revenue district in which the college is situated. In case, there is no college in the particular Revenue District under the jurisdiction of the University, the candidates will be eligible for such concessions in the University College of Teacher Education of the adjoining district. The candidates are not eligible for concession under this category.
Five (5) marks will be given to the NCC/NSS certificate holders on production of relevant certificates issued from the College / University authorities during the B.A/B.Sc Degree course.
Dependents of Ex-Servicemen / Service personnel / BSF (son/daughter/wife/husband) are eligible to get concessions as per Government rules.
5% Seats will be allocated to regular teachers of Government / Aided Schools / Higher Secondary Schools as per the eligibility prescribed by Govt.of Kerala and NCTE.
5 seats in each centre are reserved for NRI.
Certain percentage of seats are reserved for candidates of Model II Degree Courses as per rules.
B.Ed is available in following disciplines (Subjects are given in brackets)

1. English (English, Communicative English)

2. Hindi

3. Malayalam

4. Commerce

5. Sanskrit

6. Mathematics (Maths/ Statistics)

7. Social Studies (History, Politics, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Islamic History, Philosophy, Geography)

8. Natural Science (Biology,Zoology/Botany,Home Science)

9. Physical Science (Physics, Chemistry, Petrochemicals)

10. Arabic.
F. Reservation
Reservation of seats and relaxation of marks will be granted based on the rules of the University. The existing percentage of reservation is : ET (Ezhava/Thiyya)-9%, M (Muslim)-8%,LC (Latin Catholic other than Anglo Indian)-2%, OBX (Other Backward Christians) (including SIUC and converts to Christianity from SC)-1%, OBH (Other Backward Hindus)-5%, SC-8%,ST-2%. Those who seek admission to the seats that fall under the reserved category shall produce the relevant certificate from the competent authority. In order to prove concession based on caste and financial status, the certificate should be from a revenue officer not below the rank of a Tahsildar or Village Officer.
G. Where to Apply
One form to each college. Candidates can apply for more than one optional in a college. Candidates can apply to more than one college. Separate applications addressed to the Principals in the address shown at ‘A’ shall be submitted.

H. Fees

Fees once remitted shall not be refunded at any circumstance. However those who discontinue after getting admission, but before the admission procedure is complete, shall be charged a service charge of 10 percentage of the tuition fees and the rest of the amount shall be returned.
Caution deposit will be returned on completion of the course (after adjusting liabilities if any).

I. Remittance of Fee

A sum of Rs. 300/- has to be paid as Registration Fee by all candidates (for SC/ST candidates – Rs.150/-) along with the filled in application form by way of an account payee Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Finance Officer, Mahatma Gandhi University, payable at SBT, Mahatma Gandhi University Campus Branch.
Other fee as shown in the Fees structure has to be paid at the time of admission.
All fee mentioned in the Fees structure except Caution Deposit has to be paid to the Account No.67005165619 maintained in the SBT campus branch by way of SBT direct remittance pay in slip for this purpose. Remittance can be made in all branches of SBT. Caution deposit may be remitted to Account No.67005165620.

J. Fees Structure
Amount payable is given in Rupees (Except for dollars). For NRI quota the payment has to be made in dollars or equivalent amount in rupees.

SC/ST candidates are exempted from paying the fees except Caution Deposit subject to the condition that they have not availed themselves of similar concession for similar payment.
K. General Instruction

The University reserves the right to make any changes in the rules and regulations laid down in the Prospectus
Original documents should be produced at the time of admission/Interview.
Last date to receive the filled in application forms in the University College of Teacher Education concerned will be 15th September 2008
Completed Applications Forms should reach the office concerned before the prescribed date.
Admission will be provisional till it is finalized by the University.
University will not be responsible for delay in communication or late receipt of Memo sent by the University.
Incomplete application forms will be rejected.
Those who have qualified from Universities other than Mahatma Gandhi University or Boards shall produce Eligibility / Recognition Certificate from this University and Migration Certificate / NOC from the parent University / Board at the time of admission.

L. Check List Please check whether your application form contains the following:

Self attested copies of the marklists of the qualifying and other examinations.
Self attested copies of the Pass Certificate/Certificates/Provisional or Degree Certificate of the qualifying examinations; relevant SSLC pages to prove age.
Self attested copies of the certificate to prove claims based on reservation (caste), children of Ex- Service personnel, employees of the University etc.
Self addressed and stamped envelope (Rs. 6/-) (size 24 cmx12 cm)
Registration fee by way of Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Finance Officer, M G University, payable at SBT, M G University campus branch.

On July 11, 2006 the local train service, known as Mumbai’s lifeline, was struck by a series of bomb blasts. Bombay Meri Jaan explores the impact of this devastating incident on the lives of the people of Mumbai. From a brilliant broadcast journalist to a patriotic corporate man; from a retiring policeman at the twilight of his life to a rookie cop at the dawn of his career; from an angry and xenophobic unemployed young man to a coffee-vendor struggling to survive and belong: Mumbai Meri Jaan follows the lives of people from all strata of Mumbai’s bustling society as they tackle the aftermath of a fatal incident that brings out the best and sometimes the worst in them.

"When you feel like crying, just urinate", says a senior constable to his subordinate in the film adding, "That way you drain the excess water from your body". This line acts as a metaphor to the pissed-off attitude of an average troubled citizen, about which he chooses to do nothing. That gives the gist of Mumbai Meri Jaan, a film that touches the lives of an assorted array of cosmopolitan citizens, in a way never witnessed before.

Amidst formula-driven films, only once in a while do you come across a movie which strikes chord with a social theme and is enormously entertaining at the same time. Only once in a while do you come across a movie that has an outstandingly original screenplay and more importantly it connects with the viewer convincingly. Only once in a while do you come across a movie that incites you emotionally and is technically flawless simultaneously. That's Mumbai Meri Jaan!!!

In terms of theme and format, the film is reminiscent of Naseeruddin Shah's Yun Hota To Kya Hota where multiple stories ran in parallel episodes and converged at the 9/11 terrorist attack on the Twin Towers. This one, too, has several tracks but the individual stories 'emerge' from the 7/11 train bombings in Mumbai. Much against your predictable perception, the film moves away from any opinionated or political argument on terrorism and traverses a more atomic approach by representing the ordeal of the violence in five individual lives.

Suresh (Kay Kay Menon) is a Hindu extremist who has a cynical outlook towards the minority community. Nikhil (R Madhavan) is a contemporary corporate guy who opposes plastic bags, endorses public transport and is progressively patriotic. Rupali (Soha Ali Khan) is a popular television journalist who sensationalizes news to make it saleable and considers that as freedom of expression. Tukaram Patil (Paresh Rawal) is a senior constable at the verge of retirement and is paired with a patrolling partner Sunil Kadam (Vijay Maurya) whose young blood wants to rebel against social injustice and corruption. Thomas (Irrfan Khan) is a nomadic coffee vendor who doesn't gain a sense of acceptance in the class-driven society and has his own uncanny ways of getting back to the aristocrats.

Each episode runs independent of the other until they are correlated by the train blasts. While Rupali faces a personal loss, others remain individually unaffected. But the blast influences every individual's psyche implicitly. Nikhil develops a phobia for trains, Suresh's pessimism towards Muslims intensifies and Thomas uses the terror threat to his advantage. The parallel tracks beautifully congregate to a common climax.

Mumbai Meri Jaan is sensitively scripted by Yogesh Vinayak Joshi and Upendra Sidhaye and sensibly directed by Nishikant Kamat. For critics complaining of incompetent scripts, here is a screenplay that is immaculate, intelligent and emotionally binding. In this character-driven plot, every protagonist is precisely defined and their conflicts are convincingly established. The writing doesn't resort to any clichés or pre-defined formulae thereby opting for an innovative, unadulterated and gratifying treatment. No song numbers, comedy tracks or romance angles are enforced for commercial considerations.

Even through its realistic proceedings, the film invokes spontaneous humour through everyday escapades and doesn't have to go for farcical subplots. The way in which the nonentity Irrfan Khan is glamourized in the second half is imaginatively hilarious. Also, though Paresh Rawal doesn't thankfully repeat his regular comic act, he hides his character's inabilities through shades of humour.

While the film embraces an underlying social theme, it at no point tends to get preachy and also steers away from taking sides or getting judgmental. It's the director's slice-of-life approach that makes you receive the film with an unconditional open mind. Each scene has its own relevance to the script and even if there's a feeling that the second half needs some trimming, one would realize that none of the scenes are redundant.

The deftly executed train blast sequence employs superior SFX and could give you a shock of the life. Yogesh Joshi pens genuinely witty and thoughtful lines. But it's Nishikant Kamat who scores with his consummate hold on the subject and accomplished direction. Those conversant with his Marathi film Dombivali Fast would be aware of his distinct depiction of the frustrated Mumbai resident. His finesse comes handy in Mumbai Meri Jaan that borders around a varied blend of disturbed Mumbaikars. Also what needs a special mention is his laudable take on the emotional exploitation by the members of fourth estate (in the Soha Ali Khan subplot) to gain TRPs through scripted reality.

Mumbai Meri Jaan is embellished with superlative performances. Paresh Rawal comes up with one of his most poignant performances in recent times, a pleasant change from his customary comic act. His climax speech that covers the plot-points of all the protagonists brings a lump in throat. Despite playing a character with similar motivations in Shaurya, Kay Kay Menon brings variety to his act. Soha Ali Khan is outstanding in the scene where she breaks down in the hospital. Irrfan Khan doesn't speak a single Hindi word in the film but yet conveys immensely through his expressions. His character oozes innocence in the climax sequence where he seeks pardon in his own charming way. Vijay Maurya is exceptionally good as the idealistic junior constable. Madhavan is at his natural best.

In another scene from the film, the senior constable (Rawal) says to his junior, "Mumbai mein sirf picture dekhne ka, acting nahi karne ka" (Just be a spectator, don't attempt acting). It's this evasive sense of responsibility that the film highlights our attention to. At least as an audience, be responsible enough to respect such cinematic attempts.

If things do indeed happen in threes, Mallika Sherawat's next movie should also be a copy. Mallika's last film, Ugly Aur Pagli was ripped off from a little-known South Korean film My Sassy Girl. But the maker of the latest Mallika-starrer seems to have decided to go the whole hog and get 'inspired' by a classic instead.

Indeed, Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam is a copy. The film, which revolves around the escapades of a theatre group, seeks its 'inspiration' from the Mel Brooks-starrer To Be or Not to Be (1983).

So we are introduced to a theatre group that has an ageing actor Mazumdar (Paresh Rawal), his sexy and promiscuous wife Shabnam (Mallika Sherawat) and a bunch of other actors of whom one resembles a don.

Enter Arjun Rastogi (Rahul Bose), a dashing young man who comes to watch their plays just to ogle at Shabnam. Arjun we are told is in fact a senior intelligence officer who is in the area scouting for underworld connections.

As luck would have it, he overhears a local goon (Pavan Malhotra) plotting a bomb attack in the otherwise peaceful neighbourhood. He manages to avert trouble but also blows his cover in the process. So a ghazal singer Haldi Hassan (Kay Kay Menon) is assigned to complete the task.

But Haldi Hassan turns out to be a traitor and thus begins a series of misunderstandings that lead to a typical farcical ending.

What works in the film

Having said that Maan Gaye... is a copy, it must also be acknowledged that Mel Brooks' To Be or Not to Be itself is a remake of a 1942 film by the same name. It tells the story of a drama troupe trying to escape from the Nazi Germany. In fact it is so faithful to the original that in most places, it even takes the dialogues verbatim from the original.

But then there is a difference in an acknowledged remake and a rip-off. And thankfully somewhere Sanjay Chhel decides not to translate the dialogues from the original. Sadly, even though there are some mind-blowing lines in this film, almost all are lost because the plot of the film fails to hold your interest beyond the eleventh minute.

Paresh Rawal, as usual does a fantastic job, though we have all seen him in much better movies than this one. And his performance is certainly not enough to carry off the film.

What doesn't work in the film...

Mallika Sherawat disappoints and so does Rahul Bose. Again, we didn't mind Mallika in Ugly Aur Pagli. And Bose has always been a pleasure to watch right from his English, August days. But somehow neither of them has belted out a performance that makes you go 'a-ha!'

The screenplay lacks coherence and the editing seems non-existent. And then the dubbing – the less said about it the better.

Frankly one sees absolutely no reason to spend Rs 250 to watch something that seems to have been made so half-heartedly. One just wishes there was a little more effort put in this movie.

Instead all you get to see is Mallika's body (which gets boring after about 20-odd minutes) and some buffoonery that makes you want to get out of your seat and walk out.

Verdict

Get the DVD of To Be or Not to Be from your local library. It makes much more sense to watch a classic than an unacknowledged and bad remake.

Elon University retained the second-place ranking in its category in U.S. News & World Report's annual "America's Best Colleges" issue.

For the second straight year, Elon was almost at the top of the magazine's rankings of 118 master's-level universities in the South.

The rankings are based on factors such as graduation rate, selectivity of the admissions process, class size, student-faculty ratio, the percentage of freshman who return for a second year and how the school is assessed by leaders at other colleges.

This is Elon's eighth year in the top 10 in its category. When Elon first appeared in the college guide in 1995, it was ranked 39th.

Rollins College in Florida was ranked first in the category.

Elon also ranked first among Southern master's-level universities the magazine calls "up-and-coming" schools that have made "striking improvements or innovations."

The magazine said Elon, along with Belmont University in Tennessee, was the most frequently mentioned when it asked college leaders for schools that fit this category. Belmont finished second to Elon in the two schools' category on the "up-and-coming" list. Appalachian State University in Boone ranked third in that category amount Southern master's-level schools.

Elon is listed in seven of the eight categories in the "Programs to Look For" feature that is part of the college guide. No other school in the country is listed in that many categories, which include study abroad, service learning and internship opportunities.

Among other North Carolina schools on the list of 118 Southern master's-level universities, Appalachian State University ranks 9th. The University of North Carolina at Wilmington is 14th and Queens University of Charlotte is 20th. Campbell University and Western Carolina University tie for 36th and Gardner Webb University ranks 51st.

North Carolina Central University, Pfeiffer University and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke were among schools in the range of 60th to 89th place on the list of Southern master's-level universities. The magazine doesn't list a more specific ranking for those schools.

Fayetteville State University was in the range of 84th through 118th place.

Appalachian State University ranked fourth, UNC-Wilmington ranked sixth and Western Carolina University ranked 14th on a list of top public master's level universities in the South.

As the name might suggest, it is a horror film, which claims to grip the audience. The film is directed by Ram Gopal Verma and produced by Azam Khan. The music of the film has been given by Amar Mohile. The star cast of the film includes Sudeep, Amruta Khanvilkar, Ahsas Channa, Shrey Bawa, Jyothi Subhash, Ashwini Kaleskar, Kenny Desai, Ganesh Yadav, Lileete Dubey, K. K Raina, Zakir Hussain, Javed Rizvi, Anu Ansari, Shankar Sachdev, Kishore Kadam and Bharat Kaul.

The story of Phoonk features Rajeev (Sudeep), who is a successful Construction Engineer and a strong atheist. He has a doting wife (Amruta Khanvilkar) and two children of age 10 and 8. He does not approve of the existence of God and even the black magic powers. However, his very existence and his beliefs are threatened, when an evil power grips his loved ones, the existence of which his rational mind denies to accept. Entwined with this, is another story of a fanatic believer of God, who is forced to become a non believer under traumatic circumstances.

The film is claimed to be quite scary, surpassing the fear of Ram Gopal Verma’s previous horror flick, ‘Bhoot’. The fear factor featured in ‘Phoonk’ is said to seep into the system of the viewer rather than just affecting him visually on the surface level. The horror element in the film is said to have been blended quite well with the emotional component, making the viewer relate to the situations and characters of the film. Whatever might be the estimations, the truth will be revealed on August 22, 2008, when the film will be released.

Given the potential manager’s decision-making roles, this section seeks to examine the candidate’s felicity with common forms of English expression, grammar and usage in business that would enable him/her to extract essential information from a variety of data, and arrive at an informed decision. Regular analysis of business articles and non-fiction prose, besides a firm grasp of communicative English grammar would be helpful in preparing for this section.
Logical Reasoning This section consists of analytical reasoning, argument analysis, and analysis of explanation questions.
Quantitative Ability This section aims to test the candidate’s understanding of Basic Mathematics (Numbers; Operations; HCF and LCM; Fractions, Decimals and Percentages; Ratio and Proportion; Roots and Power; Logarithms; Progressions; Elementary Geometry and Mensuration; Elementary Trigonometry; Introductory Set Theory), Linear Algebra (Equations and Inequalities; Matrices; Determinants; Simultaneous equations and solutions; Elementary Linear Programming; Elementary differential calculus involving functions of one variable; Elementary integral calculus), and Probability and Statistics (Types of Data; Frequency Distributions; Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion; Probability Concepts: Basic Outcomes, Events, Sample Spaces; Probability Calculations: Counting Rules using Permutations and Combinations, Unions and Intersections, Complementary Events, Mutually Exclusive Events, Conditional Probability and Independent Events; Binomial, Poisson and Normal Random Variables; Correlation and Simple Linear Regression) for their use in business applications such as Partnership and Shareholding; Present Worth and Discounts; Depreciation; Demand and Supply; Cost and Revenue, and common applications such as Banking Transactions; Inventories; Mixtures; Time and Work; Time and Distance; Pipes and Tanks; Estimation of time, distance, area, volume, effort, etc.
Data Interpretation This section aims to assess the ability of the examinee to make valid interpretations from a given data set. The section also assesses the ability of the examinee to understand data in different representative forms such as simple tables, histograms, pie charts, graphs, scatter diagrams, etc. Although involved calculations are not expected, simple data manipulations would be required.

There is negative marking for incorrect answers. For a wrong answer to a question, 25% of the marks allotted to that question will be deducted. Moreover, for a candidate to be qualified in JMET 2009, he/she should, not only, secure certain minimum marks in the test paper, but also, should necessarily obtain certain minimum marks in each of the four sections stated above.

He was hanged to death outside his own fort. His body was cut to pieces so that nobody remembered him, but the ballads immortalized him.

The 2^nd counseling for admissions into M.Sc (Medical) courses to fillup the vacant seats in existing Colleges and seats in affiliated colleges after Ist counseling is Scheduled to be held at 10.00 A.M. on 16-08-2008 at Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada.

All the eligible candidates who qualified in the Entrance Test held on 08-06-2008 for admissions into M.Sc.(Medical) courses for the academic year 2008-09 are only eligible to attend the counseling. The candidates who were absent in earlier counseling are also eligible. No individual intimation will be sent.

About: The University of Mysore is among the foremost institutions of its kind, and is an enduring symbol in the sphere of higher education in India. It was founded by the then Maharaja of Mysore, His Highness Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and his Dewan, the renowned engineer statesman, Sir M.Visvesvaraya, on July 27, 1916. The Maharaja of Mysore became its first chancellor. A Bill to establish and incorporate the University was introduced in Mysore Legislative Council in 1916. It was passed unanimously on 17th July 1916. The first meeting of the University Council was held on 12th August 1916 and the first meeting of the senate on 12th October 1916.

The University of Mysore became the first University outside the domain of the English administration in India, the sixth University in India as a whole, and the first ever University in Karnataka. During the institution of the University in 1916, four faculties were constituted viz., Arts, Science, Engineering and Technology, and Medicine. Seperate Boards of Studies and Boards of Examiners were constituted in 28 subjects. The University was also administering 12 other educational institutions.

Established initially at Mumbai in 1949, the location was shifted to Dharwad in October, 1949 and Karnatak University had its official inauguration in March 1950. Covering a vast expanse of 750 acres on the hill named 'Chota Mahabaleshwar' one of seven hillocks on which Dharwad is beautifully perched inviting comparison with Rome, the University has its own ambience with a sylvan setting of undulating greenery. Though spacious initially the campus now looks small with 48 Departments that have come up during the half century or so of its historic existence.
